Legal Material:Most of the following links refer to German pages with German content. Sorry. Still I want to point out the Stella Awards which mark out the oddest convictions in the United States. The notation comes from 1982, when the American then 79 years old Stella Liebeck spilled a cup of hot McDonald's coffee onto her lap, burning herself. A New Mexico jury awarded her $2.9 million in damages. The Innocence Project, founded in 1992 at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, works to exonerate the wrongfully convicted through postconviction DNA testing. It also develops and implements reforms to prevent wrongful convictions. The Innocence Project is a non-profit legal clinic and criminal justice resource center. It only handles cases where postconviction DNA testing can yield conclusive proof of innocence.
